June 13, 2023 — The 7th Barangay Fire Olympics was held at Vista Mall Bataan on June 9, 2023 where select barangay representatives were given an opportunity to showcase their skills and preparedness in handling fire-related emergencies.
The pledge of sportsmanship was led by C/INSP Mr. Roderick DJ Marquez of Fire Marshal BFP – Balanga City. It was followed by a Torch Lighting Ceremony participated by various barangay representatives.
In his inspirational message, Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (CDRRMO) Engr. Dennis Mariano thanked the support of the City Government of Balanga led by City Mayor Francis Anthony Garcia, Vice Mayor Vianca Lita Gozon, and the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Barangay Captains and Technical Advisers in this annual activity, and he also hoped that activities like this will continue with their never-ending support.
On behalf of Mayor Garcia, City Administrator Atty. April Atchecho recognized the efforts of all the departments and agencies who lent their time to support this event. She was especially delighted by the barangay’s enthusiastic participation in this training.
Meanwhile, BFP – Balanga C/INSP Marquez shared that citizens can now report any fire or emergency incidents using a smartphone by downloading a mobile application called “Fireout 3” through Google Play store.
Vista Mall Bataan – Head Engr. Randolf Alba also commended this kind of event that helps improve the barangay’s skills in fire incident response.
In the afternoon, an exciting Muse Competition was held, featuring participants from different barangays who showcased their talents and wit. In the end, the Barangay Puerto Rivas Lote took the ‘Best in Muse’ award.
Winners of the 7th Barangay Fire Olympics were the following:
- Champion – Barangay Tortugas with Php 20,000 and a plaque
- 1st runner up – Pto. Rivas Lote with Php 15,000 and a plaque
- 2nd runner up – Barangay Pto. Rivas Ibaba with Php 10,000 and a plaque
- Best in Uniform – Barangay Camacho
- Best in Bucket Relay – Barangay Cataning
- Best in Fire Extinguishment – Barangay Tortugas
- Best in Busted Hose and Up the Ladder Targeting – Barangay Talisay
