May 09, 2023 – After three years of waiting due to the pandemic, the City Government of Balanga finally launched the COB Sportsfest 2023 with the theme, “Para sa Matatag at Malusog na Empleyado.”

Held at the Bataan People’s Center, players, employees, and supporters from the nine (9) clusters gathered together for the opening program.

Below are the corresponding teams/departments in each cluster:
Cluster I: Budget Office, Mayor’s Office, Vice-Mayor’s Office, HRMO, CEEDO, CTO, LCRO, CLPFO, Legal Office, Administrator’s Office, PESO, CEIDO
Cluster II: Assessor’s Office, CEO, CSWD, Tourism Office, MISO, CAIAO,CPDO
Cluster III: CENRO, Agriculture Office
Cluster IV: CPAOO
Cluster V: CGSO
Cluster VI: Veterinary Office, CLEEO, City Treasurer – Public Market
Cluster VII: CHO, COOP, City Hall Annex (personnel assigned to attached agencies: DILG, COA, Galing Card)
Cluster VIII: Local School Board Personnel
Cluster IX: CDRRMO

Committee Chairperson on Health Hon. Christian Laurence Manalaysay, Co-Chairperson Hon. Jowee N. Zabala, City Administrator Atty. April Lorelei Atcheco, and City Health Officer Dr. Mariano Antonio Banzon each gave messages of support to all the participants. Their messages highlighted one important thing: they hope that this sports event will not only help them build a healthy lifestyle, but it should also strengthen their camaraderie not only with their teammates, but to all participants.

Meanwhile, City Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia thanked Vice-Mayor Vianca Lita V. Gozon and the Sangguniang Panlungsod, and all the city departments who joined forces in making this event possible. He shared that this event is a great way to boost the SMART Living pillar of Balanga City’s roadmap.

Before the game commenced, the muse competition was held where the nine (9) gorgeous muses from all clusters showcased their beauty and confidence.

Winner – Cluster IV
2nd Place – Cluster VII
3rd Place – Cluster IX

The six remaining muses received consolation prizes.

Meanwhile, Mayor Garcia led the Oath of Sportsmanship and the Ceremonial Toss of the basketball’s opening game. He also demonstrated camaraderie, togetherness, and sportsmanship by joining the opening of the basketball game under Cluster I (COB Main Team).

Aside from basketball, women’s volleyball games will also be held.

In addition to encouraging a healthy lifestyle, sports events like this can be a fun and effective way to build stronger relationships among employees, promote teamwork, enhance leadership skills and problem-solving skills which are essential skills in the workplace.
