April 18, 2023 – Grade 10 students from Bataan National High School consisting of Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL), Special Program in the Arts (SPA), and regular K-12 curriculum showcased their talent in dancing in the first Tobacco Free Generation (TFG) Hataw Kabataan at Plaza Mayor de Balanga.

In her message, Youth Health Ambassador (YHA) President Ms. Kathreena Andrade thanked the City Government of Balanga, department heads, guests and participants for their warm support to the event. She also emphasized that the Tobacco-Free Generation (TFG) projects like this aim to provide the youth a path toward cessation and elimination of tobacco use which will encourage them to engage in healthy lifestyle activities. She further shared that the YHA will continue to host and conduct projects, such as the monthly TFG Hataw Takbo, Annual TFG Bike Ride, TFG Amazing Race, and TFG Hataw (Zumba) in partnership with the local government units upholding their advocacy in achieving a Tobacco-Free Generation in the City of Balanga and Province of Bataan.

Meanwhile, prior to the event, an elimination round was held at Bataan National High School last April 17, 2023 wherein thirty-two (32) sections joined and only thirteen (13) finalists were chosen to compete in the final competition. The finalists exhibited a fun and upbeat 3 – 5 minutes dance routine incorporating the TFG advocacy in their choreography. They were judged according to the criteria on execution, projection and synchronization by dance artists in the City of Balanga.

The winners received certificates and cash prizes: Php 5,000.00 for the Champion, Php 4,000.00 for the 1st runner-up, Php 3,000.00 for the 2nd runner-up, and Php 2,000.00 for the 3rd runner-up.

Below were the winners of the first-ever TFG Hataw Kabataan:

  • Champion – 10 – Kasilag
  • 1st runner-up 10 – Amethyst
  • 2nd runner-up 10 – Garnet
  • 3rd runner-up 10 – Jade

This event is in line with the month-long celebration of Pistang Balangueno 2023 hosted by the City Government of Balanga headed by Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia, Vice-Mayor Vianca Lita V. Gozon and the Sangguniang Panlungsod. It was closely coordinated with the City Health Office headed by Dr. Mariano Antonio Banzon, City Health Promotion Board led by Mr. Oliver Enriquez, Youth Health Ambassador (YHA), and BNHS-JHS School Health Promotion Board.
