March 14, 2023 — In celebration of National Women’s Month, the City Government of Balanga recognizes progress and contribution of women empowerment that has taken place over the years through the different activities in honing the role of women in nation building, which was held at the City of Balanga National High School (COBNHS) Audio-Visual Room. 

This year’s theme is “WE for gender equality and inclusive society,” it aims to raise awareness about gender equality, women empowerment, and an inclusive society. A capacity building activity was conducted through the able leadership of City Mayor Francis Anthony Garcia and Vice-Mayor Vianca Lita V. Gozon with the Sangguniang Panlungsod, through City Social Welfare Development Officer (CSWDO) Ms. Lalaine De Leon.  

In her remarks, Ms. De Leon expressed hope that everyone will benefit from the program’s discussions about the laws that protect and take care of women’s welfare and safety, as well as the youth. On behalf of the local officials of the City Government of Balanga, she later shared that more laws will be discussed.   

Committee Chairperson on Women, Children, and Hon. Ma. Liza Vasquez saw the importance of lectures like this that aid citizens of Balanga by providing information and knowledge that can also be spread in the barangays to protect residents against harassment and women abuse. 

Topics discussed were “Safe Spaces Art” (RA 1131), or the “Bawal Bastos Law and Anti-Child Marriage Law,” (RA 11596) facilitated by Registered Social Worker, DSWD RO3 Mr. Gerry Liangco. 

Also in attendance were PNP Women and Children Protection Desk’s Ms. Valen De Leña, Committee Chairpersons on Women, Children, and Family of the city’s 25 barangays, and members of the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI).

The City Government of Balanga envisions an environment that widens citizens’ knowledge and provides awareness on different social realities in the form of capacity building activities similar to #PurpleTuesday.
