The City of Balanga joined forces for the 2024 International Coastal Clean-Up and Barangay Clean-Up Drive, themed “Clean Seas for Blue Economy.” The event saw enthusiastic participation from city employees, barangay officials from all 25 barangays, Iskolar ng Balanga students, members of the City Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (CFARMC), various national government agencies (NGAs), and numerous non-government organizations (NGOs).
Participants began gathering at Plaza Mayor de Balanga as early as 6:00 AM, eager to kick off the day’s activities. This activity supports various environment-related initiatives of the city, including the ABKD Program (“Ayusin, Buhayin, Kalingain… Daluyan ng Tubig Natin”), which focuses on preserving the cleanliness of local waterways, including creeks, canals, and rivers. The program aims to protect aquatic ecosystems, enhance human well-being, and promote sustainability for future generations.
City Councilors Hon. Benigno Meriño, Hon. Jowee Zabala, ABC Hon. Erlinda Gozon, SK Chairperson Kheilene Camus, and DILG Bataan Provincial Director Ms. Belina T. Herman delivered inspiring messages about the importance of environmental protection. Their speeches highlighted the role of community involvement in safeguarding the environment for the benefit of future generations.
In a commendable effort, many participants extended their clean-up activities beyond their own barangays, traveling to coastal areas such as the Balanga Wetland and Nature Park to help restore this popular tourist destination.
The event was organized by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, led by Ms. Merliza Acosta.
