Fifty wheelchairs, ten crutches, ten canes, and ten assistive devices were recently distributed to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from various barangays in Balanga in celebration of National Disability Rights Week formerly National Disability and Rehabilitation Week (NDRP) Week with the theme, “Bawat PWD Balangueño sa Philippine Registry for Persons with Disabilities (PRPWD), Rehistrado.”

This initial distribution event, held at the City of Balanga National High School Covered Court, was attended by members of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children and the presidents of each barangay for PWDs.

Ms. Jennifer de Guzman, Principal IV, warmly welcomed everyone and expressed that the City of Balanga National High School (COBNHS) is always open and ready to assist PWDs. She highlighted the school’s strong partnership with the City Government of Balanga in supporting the PWD community.

PWD Focal Person, Mr. Jonjon Flores emphasized the importance of upholding the rights of PWDs to education, employment, and active participation in the community. He noted that while there are existing measures for prevention and rehabilitation, it is crucial to further recognize and uphold all the rights of PWDs.

Meanwhile, an awarding ceremony was held for the Digital Icon Making Contest participated in by students from different High Schools. The winners were given the opportunity to have their winning pieces printed on t-shirts, while consolation prizes were awarded to all participants in recognition of their efforts.

Another highlight of the program was the distribution of stickers for PWD vehicles, which will prioritize them in public parking spaces.

On behalf of Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia, Sangguniang Panlungsod and the City Government of Balanga Ms. Lalaine De Leon, City Social Welfare and Development Officer, expressed her gratitude to the PWD officers for their efforts in providing wheelchairs and assistive devices. The wheelchairs were sourced from the Children International Inc. PH and the City Government of Balanga. She also announced that the Latter Day Saints would be providing a second batch of wheelchairs to the city. She also extended her thanks to parents, teachers, barangay council members, and barangay presidents who were present.

PWDs were deeply honored and grateful to receive the much-awaited devices, highlighting the ongoing support and care from both the government and the community.
