The COB Sportsfest 2024 officially commenced on May 22, 2024, at the Penelco Auditorium, organized by the City Health Office under the leadership of Dr. Mariano Antonio Banzon. This year’s theme, “Empowering Health: Building Unity in the Workplace,” underscores the event’s focus on promoting wellness, teamwork, and solidarity among government employees.
The opening ceremony began with a parade of teams, each accompanied by their muses and players. The spectacle of colorful uniforms and enthusiastic participants set the tone for the exciting competitions ahead.
Representing Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia and the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Hon. Jowee Nisay Zabala delivered an inspiring welcome address. In her speech, she highlighted the significance of the Sportsfest as an annual opportunity for government employees to showcase their athletic skills, fostering discipline, teamwork, and camaraderie in the workplace. Mr. Gaudencio Ferrer, the Provincial Consultant of the Office of the Governor, also attended the event on behalf of Governor Joet Garcia.
The highlight of the opening day was undoubtedly the muse and cheerdance competitions, which drew enthusiastic applause and cheers from the audience. These competitions showcased the creativity, spirit, and competitive edge of the participating teams.
Muse Competition Winners:
1st Place: Ms. Pauline Diane Rodeo (Brown Bulldogs)
2nd Place: Ms. Cielo Jane Chiong (Orange Wildcats)
3rd Place: Ms. Krisna Francese Raganas (Black Rhinos)
The winning muses were awarded sashes and cash prizes, with the first place receiving 5,000 PHP, second place 3,000 PHP, and third place 2,000 PHP. All other participants received a consolation prize of 1,000 PHP.
Cheerdance Competition Winners:
1st Place: Blue Ravens (City Health Office)
2nd Place: Yellow Firebirds (COB Main I)
3rd Place: Red Foxes (CPAOO & CDRRMO)
Cheerdance champions, the Blue Ravens, took home a trophy and a cash prize of 15,000 PHP. The Yellow Firebirds and Red Foxes received 10,000 PHP and 7,000 PHP, respectively, with a consolation prize of 5,000 PHP for other teams.
The opening day’s activities set a high standard for the rest of the Sportsfest, promising a series of competitive yet friendly matches that will further strengthen the bonds among city employees. With such a successful start, the COB Sportsfest 2024 is poised to be a memorable event that not only celebrates athletic excellence but also unity and health in the workplace.
