Twenty-three (23) young and talented Balangueñas vied for the crown in the Munting Balangueña 2023 Coronation Night at Plaza Mayor de Balanga on April 24.

Gracing the event were Bataan Vice-Governor Ma. Cristina Garcia, City Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia, Balanga City Tourism Council (BCTC) Chairperson Ms. Raquel Garcia, and City Councilors Jowee Zabala and Benigno Meriño.

The candidates from various barangays gave a cheerful dance presentation to brighten up the event. The Plaza Mayor was filled with people as they cheered on their favorite candidate.

It was followed by an outstanding performance from Munting Balangueña 2019 queens and another energetic performance from Sayaw Bulaga Kid’s Edition Grand Finalist G Boyz Juniors.

The candidates, who looked dazzling in their white long gowns, were serenaded by Mr. Kristoffer Quiambao on a floral stage that was as lovely as them.

They were evaluated by the invited Board of Judges, namely Mr. Francis Initorio, Mr. Jones Capulong, Ms. Alicia D. Pizarro, Atty. Roseanne B. Mateo, and Ms. Gene dela Fuente. All the 23 candidates received special awards.

Five major awards were given:

  • Best in Casual Wear – Rhodlyn Kate N. Lopez (San Jose)
  • Best in Talent – Affreyienne A. Refumanta (Camacho), Anthea Brielle L. Vasquez (Cupang Proper), Wylie A. Molina (Cupang West)
  • Best in Long Gown – Megan Auley M. Ongkingco (San Jose)
  • Little Miss Congeniality – Anthea Brielle L. Vasquez (Cupang Proper)
  • Little Miss Photogenic – Megan Auley M. Ongkingco (San Jose)

Shortly after, the top 5 were announced, namely Megan Auley M. Ongkingco, Affreyienne A. Refumanta, Anthea Brielle L. Vasquez, Rhodlyn Kate N. Lopez, and Ashtin Mcclaire Velasco.

They went through another question and answer where the top 5 candidates unfolded their wit, intelligence, and personality at a young age.

Before the winners were announced, Munting Balangueña 2019 Queen Mavii Forbes did her final walk, thanking the City of Balanga for the opportunity and trust given to her as the first-ever Munting Balangueña.

In the end, Megan Auley M. Ongkingco from Barangay San Jose was hailed as the “Munting Balangueña 2023.” Meanwhile, Affreyienne A. Refumanta came first place, Anthea Brielle L. Vasquez came second, Ashtin Mcclaire Velasco came third, and Rhodlyn Kate N. Lopez took fourth place.

Also present to show their support were BCTC President Ms. Sherrie Gonzalo, KKDAT National Spokesperson Mr. Franz Liam Arabia, city department heads, barangay captains, and families and supporters of the contestants.

The prestigious event was successfully conducted through the collaborating efforts of the City Tourism Office and other various city departments.
